Hypothetical example for illustrative purposes only. These examples are not a representation of past or future performance for any Shield Option (which has an associated term, index, Shield Rate, and rate crediting type) and are not a guarantee of any kind. Actual performance may be greater or less than what is shown. Shield Level II Annuities do not invest directly in the markets. The example does not account for the effect of any applicable Shield Option Fee on the ending values, therefore the actual values reflected are less than shown on the chart above. This scenario assumes no withdrawals were taken and the Shield Options were reinvested at the end of the term to reflect a hypothetical return over the defined 6-year period. This assumes, if selected, a 1-year term is reinvested five times, a 2-year term is reinvested two times, and a 3-year term is reinvested one time. Rates will be set at contract issue and are locked in for the selected term. After the initial term, renewal rates apply on the corresponding contract anniversary for the new term. Unless a Shield Option with a 1-year term is selected, the rate crediting type is not an annual rate.

Interim Value
Locked Interim Value

Hypothetical example for illustrative purposes only. These examples are not a representation of past or future performance for any Shield Option (which has an associated term, index, Shield Rate, and rate crediting type) and are not a guarantee of any kind.

Interim Value is determined at the end of the business day when Performance Lock is exercised. Upon exercising the Performance Lock feature, the value of the Shield Option will be adjusted to reflect any gains or losses attributable to the Interim Value calculation. Any losses, which could be substantial, may be beyond the elected level of protection. Once locked, the contract owner can no longer participate in index performance for the remainder of the term and may receive less than the elected rate crediting type or less than the full protection of the Shield Rate. The locked Interim Value could be less than if the contract owner chose to exercise Performance Lock at a later date or not at all.
